I used to do that unconscious typing-in with Deadspin too (and Jezebel and Gawker). I found some of my favorite writers on those sites and there was such a void after the whole thing was destroyed. I never use Twitter anyway, so fuck them, but Twitter diehards, you will get through this. If I can get past the loss of Deadspin and Jezebel who kept me company nursing a newborn baby at 3am, you can let Twitter’s flaming shitstorm go too. I will say it got easier during the few times I tried to return and saw what a shoddily written hellscape my little digital haven had become.
A few more Gawker Media site memories because now the floodgates have opened…the time I pitched Deadspin a story and they rejected it, but Diana Moskovitz was kind enough to reply to me and encouraged me to keep trying. The time and effort I put into my comments! One time commented on a Jezebel story and got 300+…likes? Upvotes? Don’t even remember what we called them, but that was a proud moment (if an absurd one). What a great little community it was.
